Always sand the wood thoroughly and make sure the surface is completely free of scratches. For renovation projects, all previous finishes must be removed first. Recommended final sanding grits are P100 for floors, P100–P150 for furniture, stairs and worktops, and P150 for MDF, Valchromat and Finsa boards. The finer the sanding, the less oil will penetrate the wood, resulting in a lighter colour.

After sanding, remove all dust using a vacuum cleaner and Rubio Monocoat Cleaner. Depending on the wood type and desired result, you can use WoodPrep to achieve deeper colours and minimise sanding marks, Tannin Primer to prevent tannin stains on species like oak or chestnut, or Deep Cleaner when working with oily tropical hardwoods or during renovation.

Do not use any preparation or pretreatment products on MDF, Valchromat or Finsa boards. When making colour samples, always follow the exact same sanding and preparation steps that will be used on the final project to ensure accurate results.

After sanding and cleaning, you can optionally use Pre-Aging or Precolor Easy to adjust the colour of the wood. Once this step is completed, the surface is ready to be finished with Oil Plus 2C.
